Purakaunui Bay, better known as PK Bay, should stand for Pumping Kegs! This well-known beach break in the Catlins has top-quality, powerful, consistent and very fun surf. The beach break provides left and right-handers. Surfable at all stages of the tide. There is a campground here if you choose to stay a little longer.

Tautuku is a beach break on a sandy beach, in the senic Catlins region. There are several peaks down the beach to choose from with both left and right handers. The wave has good power producing some gnarly drop ins and fun sections. Suitable for all levels of surfer. It gets colder down this area, so wear plenty of rubber.

Long Point is a left hand point break on a rocky point. It's a long left hander with a steep, gnarly drop in, then wally or hollow sections. Suitable for intermediate to expert surfers. It can get colder down in this area, so wear plenty of rubber. Careful on the rocks.
Kaka Point is a beach break on a sandy beach with rocky points. You can surf any where along this section of coast. There are several peaks to choose from with both right and left handers. Curio Bay is a beach break on a golden sand beach, at the southern end of Porpoise Bay. There are several peaks to choose from with both right and left handers. You can get some good, hollow lefts down the end. The wave is punchy and powerful. The halfmoon shape of th ebay allows you to pick the size of swell you are after, which can come in handy when it gets bigger. Good for all levels of surfer. It can get cold down in this area, so wear plenty of rubber.
Porpose Bay is a beach break on a golden sand beach. There are several peaks down the beach to choose from with both right and left handers. The wave is powerful. Its often bigger at the north end of the beach, and the left end gets some good left hand barrels working. Good for all levels of surfer. It gets colder down this area, so wear plenty of rubber. River mouths often have strong currents or rips, so watch out at the north end.
Cannibal Bay is a beach break on a sandy beach. There are several peaks down the beach to choose from, with both right and left handers. The wave has awesome power and will get nice hollow barrels when off shore. Good for surfers of all levels. Wrap up as the water gets cold down this part of the country.
Papatowai is a favourite for New Zealands big wave riders as this place can get huge. Papatowai Breaks out on the reef at the point with a huge right hand reef break and also a gnarly left hander. The point needs over 5m swells before it can be riden and be riden when over 10ft. The wave has a steep drop in, into a massive barrel. Its out on the point, so you really want a jet ski or boat. Experts only. Watch out for sea weed and rocks. It gets colder down this area, so wear plenty of rubber.
