Awatoto is a beach break, on a shingle beach, located at the Awatoto Rivermouth. There are several peaks to enjoy and the wave is powerful, with hollow barrels. Variable banks which change often, especially when the river mouth gets dug out. Good for intermediate to expert surfers. Be careful, river mouths often have strong currents or rips.

Te Awanga beach is a right hand point break on a sandy beach. The wave is a nice soft fun wave, perfect for mals and beginners. Good for surfers of all levels.
Cray Bay is a left hand point break on a rocky point, located a long walk south over the hills from Waimarama Beach. The wave is big and powerful, with a steep drop in and hollow barrels. Serious waves here, experts only. There are several other point breaks nearby, between Waimarama Beach and Red Island, that also produce excellent surf.
Waimarama Beach is a beach break on a sandy beach, with a rocky point. There are many peaks down the beach offering both left and right handers, witha bit more of a right hander near the rocks at the southern end. The wave is punchy and fun. Good for surfers of all levels.
Blacks Reef is a right hand reef break or on an east swell you can get some left handers. The right are long and hollow with a good barrel section. This is a very good and popular break, meaning crowds, so know the rules and respect the locals.
Point Annihilation is a right hand point break along the rocky Waikokopu shore line. Point Annihilation has plenty of power, a hollow drop in and barrel section, through to a mellower shoulder. Point Annihilation can get crowded, so know the rules and respect the locals. Good for Advanced surfers.
Ocean Beach is a sandy beach break, with many peaks down the beach both to the north and south. Can be a solid wave with sand boil ups, and sometimes a hard paddle when theres a big swell. Popular with the locals. Ok for surfers of all levels.
