Purakaunui Bay, better known as PK Bay, should stand for Pumping Kegs! This well-known beach break in the Catlins has top-quality, powerful, consistent and very fun surf. The beach break provides left and right-handers. Surfable at all stages of the tide. There is a campground here if you choose to stay a little longer.

Blue Cliffs is a beach break on a sandy beach, located near the mouth of the Waiau River, in Te Waewae Bay. There You can surf anywhere along this stretch of coastline. The Waiau River mouth is one of the better spots with good right handers into the river mouth. There are lots of other peaks down the beach to choose from, with both right and left handers on offer. At the western end of the beach it can get a bit more sheltered with some good peaks. The waves can be inconsistant, but when the conditions are right there are some good, punchy, fun waves. Godd for surfers of all levels.
Porridge is a left hand point break along the south eastern side of the bay, on a rocky shore. this place gets heaps of swell and pumps. The wave is long and fast, with several sections from wally to hollow barrels. You must ask the farmer permission to cross his land for access to the beach, which is a short walk over the hill. Best for advanced to expert surfers only. Careful on the rocks. It gets colder down this area, so wear plenty of rubber.
