Kumera Patch is an amazing left-hand point break, that seems to reel along for ages. It is a boulder point with a sandy beach. Depending on the conditions and tide, it's often a wally, workable wall with some faster barrel sections. It is often easier to run back round the beach for the next ride. Best between 3-12ft. Suitable for intermediate to expert surfers. Respect the locals.
Stent Road is a favourite Taranaki break, one of New Zealand's top spots. It is a big, right-hand point break along a rocky shore. There are several sections from a hollow drop in, to a barrel section, then a wally wave. Stent Road can get really crowded, so know the rules and respect the locals. There are other breaks close by if it gets too busy.
Fitzroy Beach is an awesome beach break that, when offshore, can create some excellent barrels that are very hollow with some gnarly drop-ins. This break is best on a higher tide. The waves can be a bit smaller down the east end of the beach, depending on the swell. When big, leave it to the advanced riders, but when smaller it's good for all levels. The beach can get crowded on summer days, so watch out for swimmers, know the rules and respect the locals.
