Clarence
Clarence is a river mouth break on a shingle/stoney beach, located at the mouth of the Clarence River, north of Kaikoura. There are a couple of peaks to choose from. The wave dredges up really hollow, with barrels on offer. Best for advanced to expert surfers. River mouths often have strong currents or rips.

Clarence is located at the mouth of the Clarence River, north of Kaikoura.
From Kaikoura, drive north on State Highway 1 for about 20mins. Just before the Clarence River there are some gravel/sand forestry tracks on the east side of the road which you will need to follow out to the river mouth. There may be a short walk involved. Or you can make your way down the river bed.
