Torere is a right hand point on a shingle/stoney beach, located at the north end of the beach at Torere. Torere requires a big swell to get working which is fairly rare. The wave is wally and long. Suitable for intermediate to expert surfers.
Hawai is a right hand point on a shingle/stoney beach, located at the north end of the beach at Hawai. The wave is fast and hollow with good barrels and a nice long ride. Suitable for intermediate to expert surfers.
Whituare Bay is a right hand point on a shingle/stoney beach, located just north of Hawai, also known as Maraenui. The bay produces a good quality right hand point. The wave wally but fat with several sections to play with and nice long rides. Good mal wave. Suitable for intermediate to expert surfers.
Motu River mouth is a right hand point on a shingle/stoney river mouth, located just north of Houpoto and south of Whitianga Bay. The wave is a good quality right hander which produces hollow barrels and peels along for long rides. Suitable for advanced to expert surfers.
Opotiki Beach is a long beach consisting of a beach break on a sandy beach. There are several peaks and river bars down the beach to choose from, along Opotiki/Waiotahi coast. The waves are changable depending on tide and sand movement. Travel down the beach and find a good peak or bar to ride, you should be able to find some fun waves. Suitable for surfers of all levels.
Ohope Beach is a nice local beach near Whakatane. Its a beach break on a grey sand beach. Best at the west end of the beach where its gets a little more sheltered under the hill. There are many other peaks down the beach. Ohope Beach provides variable beach break conditions, depending on tide and sand movement. Can have nice wally waves. Good for surfers of all levels. Popular beach in summer so watch out for swimmers.
