Matakana Island

Matakana Island is a beach break on a sandy beach, located along the coast of Matakana Island. You will need a boat or take the ferry, you can take your car across on the ferry. note you are not allowed to paddle the channel between Matakana Island and Mount Maunganui. There are several peaks along the beach to choose from with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and fun. Good for Intermediate to expert surfers.

Puni's Farm

Punis Farm is a beach break on a sandy beach, located near the southern end of Matakana Island. You will need a boat or take the ferry, as you are not allowed to paddle across the channel. There are several peaks to choose from with both right and left handers. The wave is high performance, powerful, hollow barrels. Good for Intermediate to expert surfers.

Shark Alley

Shark Alley is a sandy beach break located just on the other side of Leisure Island (Moturiki). This small island sits just off Mount Maunganui's Main Beach. Breaks can also be found off either side of Motuotau Island, a short paddle out from the beach. There are several peaks to choose from with both right and left-handers. The wave is often soft and fat, great for learners and mal riders. Suitable for all levels of surfer. Popular beach so watch out for swimmers, know the rules and respect the locals. Facilities are available at the surf club.

Tay Street

Tay Street is a beach break on a sandy beach, located not far along from Mount Maunganui. Tay Street is quite well known for a good peak along this stretch of beach. There are several peaks to choose from with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and can get hollow, good fun. Suitable for all levels of surfer. Popular beach so watch out for swimmers, know the rules and respect the locals. There are facilities located at the surf club.

Arataki

Arataki Beach is a beach break on a sandy beach, located Papamoa. There are several peaks to choose from with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and can get hollow, good fun. Suitable for all levels of surfer. Popular beach so watch out for swimmers.

Papamoa Beach

Papamoa Beach is a sandy beach break located at Papamoa. There are several peaks to choose from with both right and left-handers. The wave is punchy and fun. Suitable for all levels of surfer. There are facilities at the Papamoa Surf Club. This is a popular beach, so watch out for swimmers.

Kaituna

Kaituna is a river mouth beach break on a sandy beach, located at the mouth of the Kaituna River. There are several peaks to choose from with both right and left handers. The wave is Hollow and powerful with barrels on offer. Best left to the expert surfers.

Motiti Island

Motiti Island is rocky island located approx 10km off shore from the Tauranga coastline, out off Papamoa Beach. Motiti Island features several breaks, at the southern tip of the island there is a right hander and a beachie, and the north eastern tip has a left hander. The north east tip is known as Swannies and is a hollow, powerful left hander. The eastern side of the southern tip has a powerful beachie with both right and left handers. The western side of the southern tip has a right hander that is long and powerful. Experts only.

Newdicks

Newdicks is a beach break on a sandy/rocky beach, located on the east side of the point from Maketu. There are several peaks along the beach to choose from, with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and powerful with steep drop ins and hollow sections. There are some rocks to wtchout for. Good for intermediate to expert surfers. Private access to beach, you must pay at the honesty box.

Maketu

Maketu is a river mouth beach break and right point on a sandy/stoney beach, located at Maketu at the mouth of the Maketu Estuary. There is a right hand point break along the beach on the east side of the river mouth, and several peaks around the mouth of the river with borth right and left handers. The wave is punchy and hollow. Good for intermediate to experts surfers.
