Quarry Beach Surfboards was started in 1989 by Graham Carse, who decided that Dunedin needed a shaper with an extensive knowledge of the local conditions and the crafts needed to master these magical places. Graham learnt the craft in the 70s working with fellow surfer and friend Steve Teague under the surfing label “Slick Sticks”. Initially, Graham shaped from his back yard through the 80s, then went on to make shaping his life’s work under the QB label.
We run our school from The Esplanade at St Clair Beach & now from Warrington beach. We are a small but extensive school owned & run by husband & wife team Jason & Evie Newton.
Hydro Surf, established in Dunedin 1985, is now one of the oldest and last ‘original’ surf shops in New Zealand, starting in an era where equipment was still made at home in the workshop.
Brighton is a right-hand point break around the rocks onto a sand beach, located south of Dunedin. The wave peels along with a nice wall. Suitable for all levels of surfer.

There are several peaks down the beach with both right and left-handers. The wave is powerful, with steep, fast drop-ins and good barrels. Suitable for all levels of surfer.
Lawyers head is one of Dunedins local breaks, just minutes from Dunedin center. Lawyers head is a beach break on a golden sand beach. There are several variable peaks down the beach to choose from with both right and left handers. Good, wally fun waves and the barrel if its off shore. Good for beginners through to experts. Water can get polluted with the sewage outfall pipe very close, depending on conditions, surf at your own risk.
