Northland West

Pouto

Pouto is a right hand point break along a sandy beach, located just inside the mouth of Kaipara Harbour of the north side, south of Dargaville. The wave is wally and long. Needs a big swell to get and get it working. Good for intermediate to expert surfers.

Ripiro Beach

Ripiro Beach is a beach break on a sandy beach, located north of the Kaipara Harbour, south West of Dargaville. There are several peaks along the beach to choose from with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and fun. Good for all levels of surfer.

Glinks Gully

Glinks Gully is a beach break on a sandy beach, located south of Aranga, south West of Dargaville. There are several peaks along the beach to choose from with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and fun. Good for all levels of surfer.

Aranga Beach

Aranga Beach is a beach break on a sandy beach, located at Aranga, West of Whangarei. There are several peaks along the beach to choose from with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and fun. Good for all levels of surfer.

Kawerua Reefs

Kawerua Reefs is a range of beach/reef breaks on a sandy/rocky beach. Kawerua Reefs is located a long walk south of the Wairau River, south of Waipoua Reefs. The wave is powerful and hollow, with barrels on offer. Best for expert surfers only.

Waipoua Reefs

Waipoua Reefs has several right hand point breaks on rocky points with sandy beaches. Waipoua Reefs is located a long walk south of the Wairau River. The wave is powerful and hollow, with barrels on offer. Solid performance waves. Best for expert surfers only.

Waimamaku

Waimamaku is a beach break on a sandy beach, located at the mouth of the Waimamaku River, south of Omapere. There are several peaks to choose from along the beach with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and fun. Good for all levels of surfer. Exposed break that is usually wind affected. River mouths often have strong currents or rips. This is a dangerous beach, surf at your own risk. Sharky area.

Hokianga

Hokianga is a beach break on a sandy/rocky beach, located on the south head of Hokianga Harbour. There are several peaks to choose from along the beach with both right and left handers. There is also a good right hander on the end of South Head. The wave is punchy. Very strong currents, so you can only surf around lower, incoming tide. Be careful of strong currents or rips. Good for intermediate to expert surfers.

Tanutanu

Tanutanu is a beach break on a sandy/rocky beach, located south of Tauroa point, south west of Ahipara. There are several peaks to choose from along the beach with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy. Tanutanu is a long walk or 4wd in from the Gumfields, or you can drive on the beach right round the point from Shipwreck Bay. Be careful of rips. Good for all levels of surfer.

The Box

The Box is a right hand point break on a rocky beach, located west round the point from Bluehouse, Pines and Shipwreck Bay, and west of Ahipara. The wave is powerful, with a steep fast drop in, into a short, hollow barrel. The Box is a long walk round from Ahipara, past Shipwreck Bay, supertubes, pines, and Bluehouse. If you have a 4wd you can drive around on the beach. Be careful of rips. Best for expert surfers only.
