Directions
From Featherston drive east on State Highway 53, then turn right onto Kahutara Road and take it to the end. Turn right onto Lake Ferry Road. then turn left onto Cape Palliser Road and continue round the end of Cape Palliser. When you go round Rocky point the road will change to a 4wd Track. The Desert is the next bay past Schnappes.
From Wellington take State Highway 2 north, out throught Upper Hutt, along to Featherston. Then follow directions from Featherston. Approx 180mins from Wellington to The Desert.
From Masterton take State Highway 2 south, through Carterton and Greytown, along to Featherston. Then follow directions from Featherston. Approx 150mins from Masterton to The Desert.
