Te Oka Bay

A sandy beach at the end of a long narrow bay, so it needs the right swell angle to get in. Can be a good choice when there is a really big swell and you want something a little sheltered and smaller. Good fun wave for all levels. The beach looks stoney but once down to sea level it's sand, so no need for those booties. Better on a lower tide.

Directions

From Christchurch, drive out through Halswell on Christchurch Akaroa Road Highway 75, through Tai Tapu, past Birdlings Flat to Little River. Just as you are entering Little River, take the right hand turn off on Wairewa Pa Road, signed posted to southern bays, then take the first right onto Kinloch Road. The road will wind up the hill. At the summit, the road will change to gravel, here turn right onto Bossu Road, then take the first left onto Te Oka Bay Road. When you reach the first farmer's house, keep going straight and follow the road round the bays. You will drive past Tumbledown Bay then down the side of Te Oka Bay. Park on the grass beside the fence.
