Desperation Point is the southern point out off Opunake Beach. The are several peaks out off the point, with both right and left-handers. The wave is punchy and wally. Best on a good size swell. Suitable for intermediate to expert surfers.

Directions 

From New Plymouth, head south on the Surf Highway, State Highway 45. From Opunake, when on the main road State Highway 45, take Layard Street southwest out to the point. From here, it's a short walk down to the water. Opunake Beach Holiday Park can be found on Beach Road right on the beach.
