Takou Bay
Takou Bay is a beach break and river bar break on a sandy beach, located north of Kerikeri on the east coast of Northland. There are several peaks down the beach to choose from with both right and left handers. The wave is punchy and fun. Good for all levels of surfer. Popular beach - know the rules and respect the locals. Watch out for swimmers. River mouths often have strong currents or rips.

Takou Bay is located north of Kerikeri on the east coast of Northland.
From Kaitaia, head north on North Road, State Highway 1. At Awanui turn right onto State Highway 10. Continue on State Highway 10 past Whangaroa Harbour and Kaeo, then turn left onto Takou Bay Road and go right to the end. From here its a walk across several paddocks beside the river, down to the beach. You must ask the farmer for permission to cross his land.
From Whangarei, head north on Western Hills Drive, State Highway 1. At Kawakawa turn left onto Queen Street, State Highway 1. Turn right onto State Highway 10. Turn right onto Takou Bay Road and follow this right to the end. From here its a walk across several paddocks beside the river, down to the beach. You must ask the farmer for permission to cross his land.
