Ngunguru Bar
Ngunguru Bar is a left hand river mouth bar break on a golden sand beach, also known as Whangaumu beach. You will need to paddle across the river to get to the break. The bar creates a fast drop in, with a barrel section, on the southern side of the river mouth. Break can change depending on sand movement, tide and river flows. River mouths can often have strong currents, so watch out. Best suited to experienced, Intermediate to expert surfers.

Directions
From Whangarei, head north on Bank Street and continue north on Mill Road. Continue straight ahead onto Waiatawa Road and keripaka Road. You will need to turn right at the big roundabout to stay on Keripaka Road. The road will change to Ngunguru Road as you leave Whangarei. Continue on all the way to Ngunguru. At Ngunguru, find a park near the river. From here you will need to paddle across the river and walk out onto the beach tocheck the river mouth break.
